Fall Pow Wow August 19th to 21st

Mark your calendars for August 19th to the 21st for our Fall Woapeu Sisilija Lodge Fall Pow Wow. This year's theme is "Strengthen the Spirit". Keeping with this theme we will build each of our "spirits" by re-visiting the ceremonies that we all participated in when we were inducted into our Lodge. Why did we test the bow and what were the four tests of your Ordeal? When was the last time that you observed a Pre-Ordeal or Ordeal Ceremony? Come to the Pow Wow and strengthen your spirit by participating in the OA's time honored ceremonies.

Swimming, food, dance team, food, ceremonial team, food, training sessions, food, elections, food, orientations, food, ceremonies and, of course, food are just some of the activities planned for the weekend of August 19th-21st. You may participate in whatever activities that you wish and eat to stomach's content. All of this for just $20 for the entire weekend. Please use the attached registration form to reserve your space. IMPORTANT NOTE: Reservations are due by August 12th so please call the Council Offices at 570-326-5121 to reserve your space for the Pow Wow today.

124 New Brothers Inducted

We welcomed 124 new Brothers into our Lodge this summer. Each Wednesday night Calling Out Ceremony was highlighted with a roaring fire and a huge crowd of Scouts, Scouters and their families.

During their Ordeals our new brothers completed project of arduous service that are very much in evidence around Camp Karoondinha. The new trail between Harris Cabin and the Dining Hall is very impressive and much appreciated by all.

49 Brotherhood Members

Ordeal members of our Lodge are encouraged to seal their membership by completing the Brotherhood Boards of Review. These reviews are conducted each week during summer camp and at the spring and fall Pow Wows. So far this year forty nine new Brotherhood members have sealed their membership in our Lodge. The best method to use to prepare for your Brotherhood boards is to visit the Jumpstart web site that is at: www.jumpstart.oa-bsa.org

Welcome to the New Buffalo Horn

As part of his mission as our Chief, Clint Bowersox has made the re-energizing of the Buffalo Horn one of his key priorities. The Buffalo Horn will be published quarterly in August, November, February and May. Each edition will carry recent news and announcements of upcoming Council and District Lodge activities. The Communications Merit Badge candidates from Troop 508 in New Berlin will be the writers and editors of the Buffalo Horn and the newsletters will be distributed by mail by the Council staff and also available on-line at www.533bsa.org/oamain

National Jamboree's happen every four years when nearly 40,000 scouts and scouters meet for a week Boy Scouting's best. Some of the highlights of these jamboree's are the major opening and closing shows, the Merit Badge Mid-way were every merit badge is offered and the, of course, the OA's activities. This year's main OA show is called "123" or Twelve Cubed. This equation stands for the 12 points of the Scout Law and the 3 points of the Scout Oath.

From Your Chief

It's been a busy summer at Camp Karoondinha where I've been working as the Archery Director this summer. The summer started very cool but warmed up quickly and hasn't cooled off yet. Later this month I'm off for two weeks to work on the OA Service Crew at the National Jamboree. This is my first Jamboree so I'm really looking forward to meeting new people and seeing everything that the Jamboree has to offer. I can't wait to see all of the shows and find out what the National OA will do at the 123 Extravaganza.

Hopefully, you've enjoyed reading this edition of the Buffalo Horn. This is a scaled down version that I wanted to get out to make sure that everyone had the Fall Pow Wow news. We'll have a larger edition with more news and features ready to distribute at the Pow Wow. After that you'll receive the Buffalo Horn quarterly. If you have any suggestions or if you would like to submit an article please let me know.
Wimachtendienk,
Clint
